組体操

What is Kumitaiso?

Did you do this in your school?

In 2019 Kobe banned any pose where kids stand on top of each other. Making shapes safely is still allowed.

  • Between 2016-2018, 382 cases of kumitaiso-related accidents occurred at elementary and junior high schools. Of these, 123 cases involved broken bones.

  • The Kobe board explained that some of the reasons for the ban include the decline of athletic performance among schoolchildren, and the difficulty for teachers who coach the groups.

Do you think kids are less athletic these days? Why?

Do you think Kumitaiso should continue?

棒倒し

Have you heard of boutaoshi before?

What do you think it is?

The English translation is “pull down the pole”

Each team has a pole. The defenders must keep the pole up and the attackers try to pull down the enemy pole.

Would you like to watch this at a high school sports day?

It used to be more popular but now very few schools do it. Why?
