In 2019 Kobe banned any pose where kids stand on top of each other. Making shapes safely is still allowed.
Between 2016-2018, 382 cases of kumitaiso-related accidents occurred at elementary and junior high schools. Of these, 123 cases involved broken bones.
The Kobe board explained that some of the reasons for the ban include the decline of athletic performance among schoolchildren, and the difficulty for teachers who coach the groups.
