locked out

My friend recently got home at 1 am after drinking with his coworkers. At his apartment he realized he had lost his key.

What would you do in this situation?

“If I were him, I would…”

He called the building management company but they didn’t pick up because it was too late.

He decided to go the police station to ask if they had received a key. They hadn’t. They said he could call a locksmith who could pick the lock. He decided to do that.

Would you have made the same choice?

After an hour the locksmith came but his building’s gate was too new so they couldn't pick it. They suggested he call neighbours to ask them to let him in the building. (It’s not 2:30am).
What would you do?

He called a few neighbours and one let him in. Then the locksmith checked his locks. They said it would cost at least 20,000 yen for each of the 2 locks. Do you think he should pay the money?

He agreed to pay and after they picked the locks they said the final invoice would be 140,000 yen. Should he accept the cost or complain?

He is trying to call the company to complain about the unexpectedly high charge.

In the morning he found his key in a secret pocket in his bag... The bag was new so he didn’t know about the pocket.
