Kenya advice

I’m going to Kenya this summer.

What clothes should I pack for the weather?

Actually Kenya is about 10 degrees colder than Tokyo. At night it will go down to 12 degrees.

Do you think I should drive in Kenya?

How should I get around?

Many websites say tourists should avoid driving in Kenya. The roads are often in a bad condition and local drivers can be dangerous. There are many potholes and few lights at night.

You should hire a local driver. The cost is around $30-$50 a day.

I plan to go on safari but I don’t have a nice camera. Should I buy one for the trip?

I don’t think I need a nice camera in my normal life. Do you have one? Do you want to buy one?

I plan to go on Safari. What clothes should I wear?

  • sleeves

  • colour

  • material

General advice:

  • Wear long sleeves and long pants to protect yourself from mosquitoes

  • Avoid dark blue and black clothes because they attract Tsetse flies (which can bite)

  • Avoid bright unnatural colours because they will affect the animals

  • You can’t wear camouflage in many African countries because you look like the military

  • Brown, beige, green, and grey are best

  • White will get very dirty because of the dust

  • Wear light clothes that can be handwashed and dried quickly
